Research for a book can be so many things – interesting, informative, fun, and even yummy. Yes, I said yummy! I am currently completing chapter four of the last book in The War Song Series, and I have found myself back in Detroit, Michigan in 1949 at a famous bakery called Sanders. The bakery was founded in 1875 and was known for its ice cream sodas, cream puffs, and Bumpy Cakes.
I decided that in order to truly write about the cakes, I had to taste them! You can still order the famous cakes today at www.sanderscandy.com. We ordered the Chocolate Fudge Bumpy Cake and the Vanilla Buttercream Bumpy Cake. My favorite was, of course, the chocolate version. Have you ever been to Sanders in Detroit? Have you ever eaten a Bumpy Cake? If so, which version is your favorite? Leave a comment below!
