The Perfect Gospel Song to End a Book

When I was a little girl, I loved going to church with my grandparents and singing old gospel hymns with them. My Grandmother and my Granddaddy both sang in the choir, and they would take me up upfront with them when I was visiting. I felt very special singing beside them!

One of my favorites of the old gospel songs is Will the Circle Be Unbroken. The song was written in 1907 by Ada R. Habershon. In 1935, A.P. Carter rewrote the popular hymn for the Carter Family to record. Their version is the one we know best today, made famous by such country/gospel greats as the Carter Family, Roy Acuff, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

The War Song Series is full of moving big band and gospel music. Will the Circle be Unbroken seemed like the perfect gospel song to express the perfect sentiment to end Songbird. Take a listen to the Carter Family singing it now!

“Will the circle be unbroken? By and by, Lord, by and by, there’s a better home a- waitin’ in the sky, Lord, in the sky,” Ava, Victoria, Sheffield, Carson, and Jude sang out triumphantly together.

It’s finally over, Ava thought when they sang the last note, and her voice swelled with more careless passion than ever before.
